DETROIT, MI Wednesday Apr.12.2006 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Proof, of the rap group D12, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning (April 11) outside a Detroit night club, reports MTV.com.

Born DeShaun Holton, Proof was a founding member of the rap sextet D12 and considered an important figure in Detroit's hip-hop scene.

The 30-year-old MC and father of five was also best friends with Eminem and his right-hand man onstage. Proof served as Eminem's best man when Em remarried Kim Mathers almost three months ago (last week, Eminem filed for divorce).

Proof was killed in a shooting outside the CCC Club on East Eight Mile Road, where he died from a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting also left another man in critical condition.

The Detroit Police Department is investigating the incident and searching for the suspect who fired the gun. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact them.

The Detroit Free Press reported that Eminem, Obie Trice, as well as several of Detroit's hip-hop rappers, producers and DJs planned to meet with Proof's family on Tuesday.

D12 was getting ready to start work on its third album this month.

According to D12's official web site at www.d12online.com, memorial service arrangements are still being made. Proof's "family and friends would appreciate privacy during this difficult time."

Arrangements for fan remembrances are being planned, and the details will be posted on Proof's official site at www.IronFistRecords.com.
