The product was due to be released earlier this year, but Sony announced on Tuesday that the date has now been pushed back to October.
Toshiba has its own version of the player, but with a different format. According to Reed Hastings of Netflix, "DVD sales will go down this year because consumers know about high definition but they don't know which format to buy."
Samsung has also released a similar DVD player, but many retailers aren't carrying the product.
