WESTMINSTER, ENGLAND Monday Apr.16.2007 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Blur's drummer David Rowntree has been selected as the Labor party candidate in the Marylebone High Street By-Election in Westminster, and the musician/politician made the announcement in a two-minute, 10 second interview on YouTube.

Rowntree said, "I've been a longstanding member of the Labor party and supporter and I've been active in local politics for a while."

When he was asked why he chose to run in Westminster, Rowntree replied, "Well, I'm a Westminster resident, and in my experience of living here is that, you know, it all looks lovely. There are hanging baskets everywhere, but you only have to scratch the surface to see that actually underneath there's a lot of deprivation, there's a lot of inequality."

"I think somebody needs to do something about that. Take some action."

The election will take place on May 3rd, 2007.
