NASHVILLE, TN Thursday May.17.2007 /netmusiccountdown.com/ --
No ACM Award show was ever richer in outstanding performances than this year's show, including not one but several truly show-stopping musical moments.
KENNY CHESNEY kicked off the 42nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards with a rousing version of his hit, "Beer in Mexico." The first award of the night was for Song of the Year won by George Strait's "Give It Away." Followed by MIRANDA LAMBERT'S explosive new single, "In a Small Town."
Some Heart's, Carrie Underwood's 5 times platinum debut album was crowned Album of the Year...it was her second win of the night after picking up Video of the Year for "Before He Cheats." We asked Carrie where she gets the cool confidence to always deliver the goods when she's performing at pivotal events such as American Idol, the holiday performance at Texas Stadium, the ACM awards and so on.
She said, "I honestly I'm just very blessed and very lucky and I say a little prayer before I do anything. So, it's just kind of centering yourself and trying to be calm about it and just go out and do it. Because you really do only get one shot...especially early on in your career you really use every single opportunity you have to impress. So you know that and you know what you gotta do and you go out and do it."
JOSH TURNER performed "Would You Go With Me," to constant screams of joy from ladies in the audience especially when he hits those big bass low notes.
GEORGE STRAIT showed that at 55 he sounds good as every on "Wrapped." AND, CARRIE UNDERWOOD delivered "Wasted" like she always delivers her music, perfect and powerful.
RASCAL FLATTS, RODNEY ATKINS, LITTLE BIG TOWN, SUGARLAND, TOBY KEITH, JASON ALDEAN, BROOKS & DUNN, BIG & RICh with JOHN LEGEND and VINCE GILL gifted the audience and TV viewers with powerful good performances on a night that never let feet stop stomping, hands clapping or hearts stopping. It was that special.
BUT, THERE WAS MORE...INCLUDING MULTIPLE SHOW-STOPPING MUSICAL EVENTS
REBA MCENTIRE and KELLY CLARKSON debuted the first release from Reba's new Duets CD, "Because of You," that will likely be a huge launch for the duets project.
FAITH HILL debuted her lush new song, "Lost," that was so fresh that she'd was still learning the song just hours before the national performance.
TAYLOR SWIFT AMAZED...It's always impressive to see any performer knock it out of the park with an acoustic guitar performance, much less a teenager as Taylor Swift did. Taylor then added to this triumphant moment when she went into the audience to sing "Tim McGraw" directly to Tim with Faith at his side. She ended by introducing herself to Tim saying, "Hi, I'm Taylor." Then she wisely hugged both Tim and Faith.
TIM MCGRAW PROVIDES PINNACLE MUSICAL EVENT OF THE NIGHT Tim has seemed to always provide huge musical events for the ACM awards, such as the debut of "It's Your Love,"(with Faith), or the amazing debut of "Live Like You Were Dying." But, last night he brought everybody to their feet and all with tears in their eyes when he sang before a section of audience filled with surviving family members of American soldiers who've died serving in the Middle East.
Written by McGraw and the Warren Brothers, the song was so new they hadn't finalized the title of the tune yet when Tim sang it in rehearsal yesterday. We finally got the name of the song by email during the show from his manager, Scott Siman...now, nobody will soon forget this performance of "If You're Reading This," the story of a letter sent back home to family only if the soldier who w rote it had died in the line of duty.
