NASHVILLE, TN Tuesday Nov.11.2003 / -- Brooks & Dunn, Kid Rock, Rosanne Cash, Sheryl Crow, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Steve Earle, Larry Gatlin, Kris Kristofferson, George Jones, Travis Tritt and many others were all on hand at the Ryman Auditorium Sunday night to pay tribute to Johnny Cash through songs and words. Actor Tim Robbins served as the host of the evening, and even former Vice President Al Gore was on hand to deliver a spoken word tribute.

Some of the performances included Travis Tritt singing "I Walk the Line," Carlene Carter joined Brooks & Dunn on "Jackson," Hank Williams, Jr. delivered an almost haunting version of "Ring of Fire," and George Jones joined the surviving Highwaymen, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson for a salute to the Highwaymen. Celebrities who couldn't attend but sent along recorded tributes included Bono of U2, Dan Rather, and Whoopi Goldberg.
