LOS ANGELES, CA Monday Nov.17.2003 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Although not in attendance at Sunday's American Music Awards, Luther Vandross received awards for Best Male R&B Performance and Favorite Soul-R&B Album. The eTracks singer suffered a life-threatening stroke in April shortly after his "Dance with My Father" album was released.

Vandross's representatives say the artist is still far from being completely recovered, but that he is albe to speak and walk with assistance. Mary Vandross, the artist's mother, was in the audience and accepted the awards on Luther's behalf, tearfully thanking "all of you who made this possible."
