Musiq says he didn't take music seriously until late teens.
PHILADELPHIA, PA Wednesday Jun.9.2004 /netmusiccountdown.com/ --
In an interview with themusicedge.com, R&B artist Musiq talked about how he got started in music and of the importance of music education in schools.
Musiq always loved to sing and listen to music, but he didn't play any instruments until he was about 16, when he took up piano. Then he started playing guitar at age 19. Says the Philadelphia musician, "I was always singing, but I didn't take it that seriously until I was older. Growing up, I didn't have that support at school, there weren't any programs or anything like that, and I try and do what I can to help out in any way to give those opportunities to others."
Adds Musiq, "I didn't really do to well in school, ironically, which is what drives me to be very adamant about contributing and participating in organizations that promote and sponsor artistic programs in schools because I didn't have that support or help back then. So I try and do what I can to help others in that."
