SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA Friday Jun.11.2004 / -- The Vines have pulled out of the coveted support spot on Incubus' summer tour of North America. The Incubus tour to support "A Crow Left of the Murder" will still go on and kicks off on June 24 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Incubus is in the process of selecting a replacement opening act.

The Vines have become known for being unpredictable and delivering irregular performances. Their reputation for erratic behavior was further solidified at a recent Sydney radio station performance when, after the first song, bassist Patrick Matthews walked out. One fan at the invite-only event for station Triple M told NME that the band "started playing but about a minute in, Pat and Craig [Nicholls] appeared to have an argument about something and Pat left the stage." The Vines were scheduled to perform the following evening, but that show was cancelled.

The Vines released an official statement saying, "The decision has been made to take a break to deal with the mental and physical exhaustion issues the band currently face[s]." The band's statement also said, "The Vines have not broken up. The band would like to sincerely apologize to Incubus, our fans and friends. We would like to thank everyone close to us for the continued support."
