LOS ANGELES, CA Tuesday Feb.15.2005 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Last Sunday, February 13, music's finest gathered in Los Angeles, California for the 47th annual Grammy Awards show, televised by CBS. The late and legendary Ray Charles was this year's big winner, with a total of eight Grammy awards for the posthumous "Genius Loves Company." His collection of duets triumphed as Record and Album of the Year.

Another top winner of the night was Alicia Keys. The soulful singer and pianist earned four Grammys for "The Diary of Alicia Keys," including Best R&B Album. Another singer and pianist, Norah Jones, received three trophies, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Other artists to score three Grammys were Usher, Kanye West and U2, while Wilco, Ben Harper, John Mayer and Tim McGraw earned two awards a piece. Also getting in on some Grammy action were Best New Artist Maroon 5 and Texas trio Los Lonely Boys, whose song "Heaven" took the prize for Best Pop Performance With Vocals. Best Rock Album went to Green Day for "American Idiot."

Country legend Loretta Lynn also took home two Grammys this year. Lynn earned an award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for her duet "Portland Oregon" with White Stripes' frontman Jack White, and she also won Best Country Album for "Van Lear Rose," which White produced.

Britney Spears was awarded the Best Dance Recording for "Toxic," and Prince earned the Best Male R&B Performance, edging out Usher. Jay-Z, The Black Eyed Peas and Kanye West were among the rap artists to receive Grammys.

The Grammy Awards show also included standout performances from Alicia Keys, Melissa Etheridge (in her first appearance since battling cancer), Kanye West and Green Day. Other performers included U2, the Black Eyed Peas, Usher and James Brown, Maroon 5, Franz Ferdinand, Tim McGraw and John Mayer.
