The Miami Herald reports that during the concert, singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong chose three fans to come up on stage and take over for him, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool. Agnew was the lucky fan to take over Armstrong's spot.
"The whole thing was like a big dream," said Agnew of his rock star moment in front of 7,000 Green Day fans. Agnew recalled Armstrong showing him the three chords to the song. "I think they were D, C and G but not in that order -- just power chords. He showed them to me one time and I repeated them back to him and he said 'Good' and he handed me the guitar and I played."
Agnew, who's played guitar since he was 10, must have done a good job because about two hours after the show, a roadie gave him Billie Joe Armstrong's guitar, autographed by Tre Cool.
A friend has already offered Agnew $12,000 for the instrument, but he declined, saying "I can't let it go; it's worth too much to me."
Adds Agnew, "It was the most unreal experience I've ever had. I'm still getting over it. Playing with Green Day was just my wildest dream come true."
