TORONTO, CANADA Wednesday Jun.22.2005 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- A Canadian Live 8 concert is beginning to take shape, and Simple Plan, Barenaked Ladies, Bryan Adams and Gordon Lightfoot are among the confirmed performers.

Jann Arden, Bruce Cockburn, The Tragically Hip, Motley Crue, Blue Rodeo, Tegan & Sara and Our Lady Peace will also play the Canadian Live 8 show at Molson Park in Barrie, Ontario on July 2. Comedian Tom Green and actor Dan Aykroyd will handle hosting duties. And, according to the Canadian Press, Celine Dion will deliver a performance via satellite.

More acts are expected to be announced prior to the anti-poverty concert, which coincides with several other Live 8 shows taking place on July 2 in Philadelphia, London, Berlin, Rome, Paris and Cornwall, England.

The concerts feature some of the biggest performers in music today including U2, Stevie Wonder, Coldplay, Madonna, Green Day, Destiny's Child, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and many more.

Last week, musician and activist Bob Geldof said Live 8 concerts would also take place in Tokyo, Japan and Johannesburg, South Africa. A show is also scheduled in Edinburgh, Scotland on July 6, the same day the G8 summit begins in Gleneagles, Scotland.
