EDISON, NJ Tuesday Jul.5.2005 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Luther Vandross passed away Friday, July 1, in Edison, New Jersey.

The R&B singer, known for his satin smooth voice, was an eight-time Grammy-Award winner. His most recent album, "Dance With My Father," won four Grammys in 2004 including Best R&B Album.

In April 2003, Vandross suffered a stroke, from which he never fully recovered. A spokesman for John F. Kennedy Medical Center, where Vandross died, said the singer "had a peaceful passing under the watchful eye of friends, family and the medical support team."

Some of Vandross' most enduring hits include "Here and Now," "Power Of Love / Love Power,"
"Give Me The Reason," "Stop To Love" and "Your Secret Love."

Luther Vandross was fifty-four.
