LISBON, PORTUGAL Monday Nov.7.2005 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- It was all about Green Day and Coldplay at the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards, held last Thursday in Lisbon, Portugal.

Besides performing live at the show, both bands took home two trophies a piece, with Green Day winning for Best Rock and Best Album for "American Idiot," and Coldplay being honored as Best UK & Ireland Act and the band's "Speed of Sound" winning Best Song.

Alicia Keys earned the Best R&B award, and the Gorillaz -- who also performed at the MTV EMAs in the form of 3D holograms -- won Best Group.

Other winners included the Black Eyed Peas for Best Pop Group, Shakira for Best Female, Robbie Williams for Best Male, James Blunt for Best New Act, System of a Down for Best Alternative, and the Chemical Brothers for Best Video for "Believe." Sir Bob Geldof was also honored with the Free Your Mind humanitarian award to recognize his work as founder of Live Aid and Live 8.
